There’s a new place for people in the Lowcountry to get healthcare.

Wednesday morning the Tidewatch Emergency Department in Okatie opened its doors to patients for the first time, offering 24/7 physician coverage.

The 10,000 square foot facility has 12 treatment areas and is one of the first stand-alone emergency departments in South Carolina.

“Lab, x-ray, we have CT scan, ultrasound, x-ray laboratory. We have it all here, and we can take care of pretty much anything that walks in the door,“ says Paul M. Zorch, M.D., Medical Director of the Emergency Department.

Initially, the hospital planned to expand the E.R. at Coastal Carolina in Hardeeville.

However, those plans changed when they realized how quickly other areas in the Lowcountry are developing.” link=”https://www.wjcl.com/article/one-of-south-carolinas-first-stand-alone-emergency-departments-now-serving-patients-in-the-lowcountry/28704658″][tm_spacer size=”lg:50″][vc_column_text]

“I think it’s a great place to get established. It’s very exciting to be here at the brand new emergency room and being able to be part of that.”
